Fourteen lawyers have earned the honourary title of Queen’s Counsel.

The Q.C. designation is awarded annually to members of the legal profession to recognize exceptional merit and outstanding contributions to the legal community.

Justice Minister Lena Metlege Diab announced this year’s appointments today, Dec. 12.

The appointees are:
— D. Peter Mancini, Halifax
— Brian P. Casey, Dartmouth
— Pamela J. MacKeigan, Halifax
— Dennis J. James, Truro
— Paula Marie Arab, Halifax
— Robert David Chipman, Bridgewater
— R. Bruce MacKeen, Guysborough
— Myrna L. Gillis, Bedford
— Paul J. Carver, Halifax
— William Mahody, Halifax
— Barry J. Mason, Bedford
— Peter C. McVey, Halifax
— Nancy F. Barteaux, Halifax
— John A. Keith, Halifax

“This year’s appointees have made significant contributions to their communities and to the justice system in Nova Scotia,” said Ms. Diab. “I am proud to present them with this prestigious title.”

An independent advisory committee makes Queen’s Counsel recommendations to cabinet. In addition to merit and legal contributions, recipients must have been a member of the bar of Nova Scotia for at least 15 years and have shown professional integrity and good character.

Ms. Diab says the 14 appointees have made great contributions to the justice system in Nova Scotia.
